Cameroon Traditional states
Note: There are hundreds of traditional polities in the area of modern Cameroon and it would be impossible to list them all. This record is in four parts: (A) major states, i.e. Bamoun, Bonanjo, Limbe, N'Gaoundere, Rey Bouba; (B) Bamileke states (of these, Bafang, Bafoussam, Bandjoun, and Bangangté were the most prominent); (C) Tikar states (note that Adamawa is listed under Nigeria states where the majority of that state now lies).

Today duplication and various historical accounts of guardians of our tradition can say without risk of error that Baleng like all Bamiléké are direct descendants of Tikar (pronounced tikâalê). The contemporary Baleng proudly claim that origin Tikar to which they affect the family whose surname is best known Wemba Ndefo Tikâalê.

"This kinship with Tikar (whose territory extends from Mount Cameroon Mambila north and the plains of mbam) classifies Baleng populations in semi-Bantoid who had to flee to Egypt where they are from, for settle in Sudan. Successive waves, they continued their migration south, with its rivers, hills and dense vegetation offered them ideal conditions to escape the cavalry of their eternal assailants successively soldiers pharaohs, slavery and plundering."
